Well, yes, I guess I do.
I make it a point to read two or more health and fitness related articles a day. This isn't a particularly difficult task as I really enjoy learning more about the industry.
Today I came across an article from The Mayo clinic titled "Fitness Program: 5 Steps to Get Started" which, as you might imagine, outlines five "easy" steps to beginning a new fitness regime (it's a fairly descriptive title). The five steps include...
Assess your fitness level
Design your fitness program
Assemble your equipment
Get Started
Monitor your progress
The article comes from a reputable source, is straight forward, well written and thorough. So what's my problem? What would I do differently?
Don't wait! Just get started. You don't need a detailed plan. You don't need fancy equipment. You simply need to start moving. Park further from your office. Use the stairs. Walk the dog 30 minutes instead of 15. Use 15 minutes of a lunch break to walk with a colleague.
These little changes add up and are the first steps to a life of health and fitness.
Once you are moving consistently. When you've taken intentional steps to introduce more activity into your acts of daily living, then go back and make plans. Get out those pencils and write up fitness goals, layout weekly workouts, invest in gym memberships, personal trainers (they're great!) or at-home equipment.
But remember, the first step is always the hardest, don't make it more difficult by adding prerequisites.
